Abstract

The library at MA Taruna Teknik Al Jabbar Medan, an Islamic senior secondary school (madrasah aliyah) in Medan, still relied on manual, ledger-based recording for its book collection, membership, and circulation transactions, which slowed data retrieval and reporting. This community service activity aimed to design and build a web-based Library Information System for MA Taruna Teknik Al Jabbar using the Prototype method. The activity was carried out through needs identification with the school's administrative staff, system modeling using Unified Modeling Language (use case, activity, sequence, and class diagrams), prototype construction with PHP and MySQL, and evaluation with the field supervisor. The resulting system enables the librarian to manage book and member data, record borrowing and return transactions, calculate late fines automatically, and generate library reports, while students can search the catalog and monitor their own borrowing status. Trials and consultation with the school's staff indicated that the system simplified data management and shortened reporting time compared with the previous manual process. This outcome is expected to support MA Taruna Teknik Al Jabbar in digitalizing its library services and to serve as a reference for similar schools facing comparable administrative challenges
