Struktur Ruang Kawasan Makam Sangia Ni Bandera sebagai Representasi Simbolik dalam Konteks Mosehe Wonua, Kolaka

Abstract

Architectural space functions not only as a setting for activities but also as a medium through which cultural values, practices, and identities are represented. Among the Tolaki-Mekongga people, Mosehe Wonua is a traditional practice associated with cultural values, historical memory, and the use of space. This study aims to analyze the spatial structure of the Sangia Ni Bandera Tomb Complex in Kolaka as a symbolic representation within the cultural context of Mosehe Wonua. A qualitative descriptive-interpretive approach was employed through field observation, interviews with cultural elders and practitioners, documentation, and literature review. The analysis focused on spatial organization, hierarchy, orientation, boundaries, accessibility, circulation, and relationships between spaces and their associated meanings. The findings indicate that the complex has differentiated spaces based on function, openness, accessibility, and customary rules. The open space at the front of the complex, adjacent to the multipurpose hall and mosque, is associated with collective activities and the implementation of Mosehe Wonua, while the tomb areas have more specific boundaries and customary regulations. These spatial differences demonstrate that meaning is shaped not only by physical configuration but also by cultural practices, customary rules, historical memory, and the transformation of customary and Islamic values. Thus, the spatial structure of the Sangia Ni Bandera Tomb Complex represents the dynamic relationship between physical space, cultural practices, history, and the identity of the Tolaki-Mekongga community.
